Our Company   

La Higuera S.A., a family company, has been a pioneer in fresh fruit export in Chile. We are located in the North extreme of the Aconcagua valley, hence enjoying a privileged climate that favors the production of several species such as peaches, nectarines, plums, table grape, clementines, grapefruit, avocados and figs. Due to the location of our farm, we are able to produce early, high quality fresh fruit.

Our nutrient-rich soil is irrigated by the waters originating in the Andes mountain range through the Aconcagua river, as well as by crystalline water from deep wells.

Our production is concentrated in our fields of the “La Higuera” area, in Santa María. Their proximity to the selection, packing and cold-storage facilities enable us to harvest the fruit when it has reached its optimum maturity state, ensuring excellent fruit with unparalleled taste.

We have leading-edge technologies, 100 percent technified irrigation and five meteorological stations. Given that new and advanced technologies in the country are always introduced, it is possible to cultivate several species and an optimum use of irrigation water as well as of fertilizers and pesticides.

Location

Our farm is located 120 km to the North of Santiago, in the Aconcagua valley, and 100 km from the port of Valparaiso.

Our Name

Our fields are located in the La Higuera area, named after the leafy tree from which early figs and figs are obtained, and that grows next to the irrigation canals and streams of the area. Only in our country two fruits, figs in March and early figs in December, are produced by this tree in a year.

Very skilled people who are permanently trained professionally to handle our fresh fruit work with us. The excellent working conditions have resulted in a long tenure within the company, and the participation of families in the different processes, such as fruit harvest and packaging.

Our agricultural season begins with the peach and nectarine harvest in November, and plums in December. Between Christmas and New Year, the harvest of nine varieties of table grape starts, which ends in March. By the end of April and until the end of June, clementines are harvested, and the agricultural year closes when avocados are gathered, from the end of June until late in August.

In September, we celebrate the end of the harvests with a delicious “empanada” and a good red wine.

QUALITY AND SAFETY STANDARDS

Higuera S.A. is certified by external auditors complying with Good Agricultural Practices (G.A.P.) and Good Manufacturing Practices (G.M.P.).

The periodic certification, both in the orchard and in the packing, guarantees a fruit handled with extreme care and under strict international standards. The G.A.P. and G.M.P. ensure  healthy fruit for fresh consumption.

Packers

We have the most modern and advanced facilities in our climatised packing  house where our own boxes of fresh fruit to be sent to foreign markets are packed.

Our packing plant is strategically located, next to our fields, on the way to Jahuel, in Santa Maria.
